Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall, consisting of a silver tower, masoned black, superimposed by a black sword all upon a blue pentagon one point up, and entwined with a red scroll doubled and inscribed "SUPPORTING" and "EXCELLENCE" in silver.

Symbolism
Red, white and blue are our National colors and reflect courage, integrity and devotion to duty. The blue pentagon in adapted from the V Corps device while the three battlements on the tower refer to the 3d Infantry Division and the unit's theater of operation. The castle recalls the unit's service and location in Germany while suggesting a strong defense. The sword symbolizes total military preparedness.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 Aug 1992.
